2014 Double Bridge Run

February 2, 2014

Yesterday I ran in my first Double Bridge run. It’s a local run. A 15k. Wait, what? Whew! This was my longest distance to date. I was worried and nervous since my training hadn’t been the best due to weather and being under the weather some.

The morning started off a bit chilly but once the race started it was perfect! The sun was rising and no fog in sight despite the forecast.

We lined up in corrals accordion to our pace per mile. And then the gun went off. We were on the move. I was excited to get to the 1st bridge.

I stuck to my run intervals pretty well. I knew if I didn’t that I’d never make it.

I was feeling pretty good after the first bridge. The run to the last bridge was pretty good and steady until the ramp to get to the final leg of the race. It was tilted and I was concerned about my ankles so I decided to walk until it felt more flat which thankfully wasn’t too far. Then it was on to the very steep Bob Sykes bridge that lead us to the finish line. Did I run up…well a part of the way. It killed my pace but I wanted to finish strong. Also, avoiding injury was on my mind since the end of the month is the Princess Half weekend. No time for that!

What was my goal for the run…to finish…under 2 hours. And guess what? I did it! 1 hour and 51 minutes. My mom and Twinkle Toes were waiting for me at the finish.

I felt pretty good at the end, better that I was expecting. I wore something extra on my wrist yesterday.

Thursday night, heaven gained another angel. Danielle, a member of the Auburn golf family, passed away in a car accident. She was an awesome woman who’s smile could light up a room. She was with me all the way just as she would have been if she was there in person. She was an encourager and would have pushed me to finish. She will be greatly missed. WDE always, D!

Until next time…keep on truckin’!
