So, I haven’t been able to run for two weeks now and I thought I’d be ok but I’ve been a bit blue. The diagnosis is bursitis, weak glute, and tightness in the upper IT band. Doc told me I could ride the bike and walk as long as it didn’t hurt. The first week I was out of commission, I was all good.
As the second week rolled around and physical therapy was in full swing, I missed another long run. That’s when it set in. The third long run missed and time ticking away as we get closer to the marathon weekend.
I’ve been walking and riding the bike with no pain while on an anti-inflammatory. Doc asked me to take them for two weeks and then stop. So, I did and have walked and gone to physical therapy and have had no pain. I go back to see the doc on Monday and I’m hoping I’m released.
Then the fun begins…trying to figure out the mileage schedule for the rest of training. Oh and Thanksgiving! Looking forward to cooking and hosting for the first time! Then the countdown is really on.
I’m freaking out, nervous, and excited. Anxious when I think about what mileage I’m going to be able to get in before the big weekend. Then there’s the new orthotics I have in my running shoes. They make my shoes feel totally different. Do I get a new pair now? Do I stay with what I have?
I’m really at a loss on some of this. I don’t know what to expect with this distance. A half, yes, of course. But a full, I’m not even sure what my nutrition needs are yet.
As you can tell, I’m nervous! I’m a little down in the dumps and need some guidance on training moving forward. I’ll take any help I can get.
How do you handle the the injury blues? Leave me a comment and let me know! Until next time, keep on truckin’!
