November 1, 2019
Did you blink? I think I did! It’s November! No way! How can this be? Wasn’t it just November? October was a little bit eventful for me. I hope it was a great month for you!
So a few new things…the not so good
We’ll start with the not so good and get that out of the way. It won’t last long in many ways. I’m a little sidelined from running. While we were at Disney, I had a little hip pain. I thought that it may have been the bed and sleeping on my hip in a strange position but it persisted. So, smartly, I went to the doctor. Thankfully, it’s just bursitis and needing some strengthening in the glute. So, off to physical therapy I go. No running for 2 weeks but I can walk and bike if there’s no pain.
The other part that I have to do is get some orthotics. Doc took one look at my feet (very flat and pronate) and quickly wrote me a script. I can’t say that was the first time I’ve ever heard that. This also will not be the first time I’ve ever been fit for orthotics. So, the time off of running will give me time to get adjusted to the orthotics before I add some longer distances.
And the good!
So, I’ve been saying in the past few post that there was something that I was working on that I couldn’t quite let you in on just yet…but now I can! I know, I know I let the cat out of the bag on social media but I’m making it official on the blog, I’m a TRAVEL PLANNER! I have completed my training with a great company, Key to the World Travel and I’m so excited to start planning amazing and magical trips for families!
You may ask, where can you book with me? Well, there are some obvious destinations, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Universal Orlando. But did you know that I can help you with cruises (Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Carnival) and Sandals too! I can’t wait to dive in!
Now on to the November goals!
- Continue to hydrate properly – I’m going to leave this one on there. Like forever! It’s good to have a water intake goal and I really enjoy the My Water app. I’m doing well with this one and adding my Nuun tabs and the variety that they have keeps water from being boring. A common complaint in my house.
- Fuel properly – This month I’m going to achieve this by meal planning. Making sure that I have protein and vegetables in the mix and at the appropriate times. This seems to be the hardest part of my fitness regiment. And add fueling during long runs, OMG! I still haven’t figured out my formula.
- Continue to go to classes – These classes are a mix of core, stretching, and big muscle groups. The gym just got some Peloton bikes in this week! I can’t wait to add them into the mix! Strength and endurance!
- RUN – Well, I’d love to do this but I’m going to have to drop back and punt just a little. Keeping up with my cardio is going to be important until I’m cleared to run again. So, to the bike I go. Move those legs and get that heart pumping! This will help when I can get back to those long runs. They are a lot about spending the time on your feet. Gotta stay in shape!
- STRETCH AND ROLL – I don’t know why this wasn’t on the list from the word go! I have been incorporating this in my routine since the end of September and it has helped so much! I’m not super flexible but I’m doing my best. And foam rolling feels so good.
How I’m staying positive, or trying to…
I have to say that I’m not so stoked about not being able to run right now. Having that said, I’m happy that the diagnosis with my hip wasn’t worse. But missing a third long run is hard to swallow. This is my first marathon. Naturally, I’m nervous. Negative thoughts have been in my head since I pressed the button to sign up. Adding this to the mix and a new city where I’m having a hard time with being confident enough to join the local club, well, hmmm.
I recently purchased a book from a recommendation from The Hungry Runner Girl called Strong. It’s a book by Kara Goucher and how she boosted her confidence and how she sets her goals. She gives you the opportunity to do homework and write in your feelings and goals right in the book. I’m about a third of the way through it and wow! It’s hard to believe that an Olympian would ever have any feelings that were remotely the same as someone who runs a pace like me. So to Kara, I say thank you. To The Hungry Runner Girl, thank you for the recommendation.
I know that was a little lengthy but I had a lot to say. Sorry for that! So, what will your November look like? How do you keep yourself motivated during the holidays? Are you traveling? Let me know! Leave me a comment!
Until next time, keep on truckin’!
